2 Men Killed In DuPage Airport Plane Crash

Airport officials said two men were on board the plane when it crashed Wednesday afternoon in DuPage County.

WEST CHICAGO, IL — Two men were pronounced dead at the scene after a small plane crashed Wednesday afternoon in West Chicago, airport officials said.

The plane crashed just before 2 p.m. at DuPage Airport Wednesday afternoon, according to a post from the West Chicago Police Department. Police and members of the West Chicago Fire Protection District responded to the crash.

Airport officials said two men had been on board the twin-engine plane when it crashed, and both were pronounced dead at the scene. Autopsies were scheduled for Thursday.

ABC7 shared helicopter footage of the Piper PA-30 plane crash around 2:30 p.m.

Located at 2700 International Dr., West Chicago, DuPage Airport and Flight Center has four active runways and is used for private and corporate flights, per its website. According to WGN, the plane involved in the crash was linked to a member of the West Chicago-based International Flying Club,

Just before 5 p.m. Wednesday, the airport said the exact cause of the accident is under investigation, adding, "DuPage Airport officials are coordinating with the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board, which will lead the investigation to determine the cause of this accident.

"No additional information is available at this time. Further updates will be provided as warranted. Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives in this tragic incident."
