DuPage County's 1st Positive West Nile Virus Tests Of Year Detected In Traps

DUPAGE COUNTY, IL — DuPage County has seen its first positive West Nile Virus mosquitos in 2026. As of May 12, West Nile Virus was detected in traps in Wheaton, Glendale Heights and Roselle.

As we head into summer, residents are encouraged to take precautions to help prevent the spread of WNV. Health department officials recommend:

• Staying indoors from dusk to dawn, when mosquitoes are more active
• Wear long-sleeved shirts, long pants, shoes and socks when outdoors
• Wear mosquito repellant that contains DEET, IR 3535, oil of lemon eucalyptus or picardin
• Rid yards of standing water sources
• Ensure that doors and windows are well-sealed

As of May 19, no human cases West Nile Virus had been reported in DuPage County for 2026.
