WHEATON, IL — Part of Willow Avenue in Wheaton will be vacated permanently, following a temporary closure, according to an update from the city.

The initial closure took effect Monday between willow Avenue and West Street to accommodate crews performing upgrades to the street's water and sewer lines. It's expected the work could last through June into early July.

Once the work is done, this stretch of road will be closed permanently. The closure comes following a petition for right-of-way vacation from St. Michael's Church that was approved by the city in 2025.

The closure will facilitate a unified campus for St. Michael's Church and its school and ease the flow of traffic onsite, according to the city's update.
