UPDATE: Funeral Services Set for Local Woman Who Died While Swimming at Indiana Dunes State Park

Funeral services for a 20-year-old Carol Stream woman whose body was recovered Sunday off the shore of Indiana Dunes State Park have been set for this week.

A visitation for Chase Froese will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Wheaton Bible Church, 27W500 North Ave. in West Chicago, according to Froese’s obituary. A visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. Interment will be private.

Froese’s body was recovered Sunday after it was spotted by a helicopter about 250 yards off the shore of Indiana Dunes State Park, according to the article. The cause of death is believed to be an accidental drowning.

Froese went swimming Friday evening with two female friends when they began to struggle in the water off the coast of Porter Beach in Indiana State Park, according to an earlier Daily Herald article. CBS Chicago reports the women got caught in a rip current.

Froese’s friends were saved but authorities searched throughout the weekend for Froese.

The 20-year-old Carol Stream woman was a junior at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Mich. The college posted the following message Monday morning on its Facebook page:

It is with a heavy heart that we send this announcement. As many of you may have already seen, Chase Froese, 20, a rising junior at Calvin College from Carol Stream, Illinois, drowned while swimming in Lake Michigan in northwest Indiana Friday night. She was swimming with two friends from Illinois at the time. Officials say that the three may have gotten caught in a rip tide. Nearby beachgoers were able to rescue Chase’s friends.

Please join with us in praying that God’s peace will guard Chase’s family and friends’ hearts and minds as they walk through this difficult time. Please also know that staff in our Broene Counseling Center (open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) and Campus Ministries offices are here to support you as you process this news.

Chase’s parents have made a statement to the press that declares their deep trust in God and their confidence that Chase is in God’s hands.
