2013 HONEY QUEEN TO VISIT KLINE CREEK FARM JUNE 7 AND 8

Beekeeping Royalty Will Showcase Importance of Honeybees

Join Kline Creek Farm, the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County’s 1890s living-history farm in West Chicago, to give a royal welcome to Caroline Adams, the American Beekeeping Federation’s 2013 Honey Queen, on Friday, June 7 from 1 to 3 p.m. and Saturday, June 8 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
At “A Visit With the Honey Queen,” visitors can explore the farm’s honey house, talk with Ms. Adams and Kline Creek Farm’s volunteer beekeepers, learn how bees make honey, and see how honey moves from hive to table. They’ll discover why 75 percent of the world’s flowering plants rely on animal pollinators and why one-third of the food we eat would not exist without them. They’ll see a garden planted especially for bees and receive seed packets to make their own yards into bee-friendly places.
All ages are welcome to attend this free program, and registration is not required. Kline Creek Farm is located at 1N600 County Farm Road. For more information, call 630-876-5900.
Kline Creek Farm also invites visitors explore the rest of the historic farmstead, from the orchard that houses the apiary to the pastures where animals graze. Farmhouse tours are on the hour, and seasonal activities show what life was like for families over 100 years ago.
The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County owns and manages 25,000 acres of prairies, woodlands and wetlands. Each year more than 4 million visitors enjoy 60 forest preserves, 145 miles of trails, five education centers and scores of programs.
