The Boston bombing affected every one in the United States including our children. My daughters, aged11 and 12, who are students in elementary school and are very active in sport were deeply hurt by this incident. My 12 year old who goes to elementary school in West Chicago said to me, “I felt really bad about what happened to the people in Boston. I cannot explain in words how I would feel if one of my family members were hurt like that. I can’t imagine how someone can hurt those people and how sad they are. It hurts me inside deeply and if I find a way to help those people I would” My 11 year old who also goes to elementary school in West Chicago was so deeply hurt by it that she did not want to get involved in any conversation about Boston bombing with my older daughter. Later at the end of our conversation she said, “I feel hurt that so many people were injured and died in the bombing in Boston. If my own parents were injured or my brother or sister was hurt in that bombing, I have no clue how would I deal with this. I pray and will keep praying for the rest of my life that May God keep all of us safe. I am so sad that how these two guys just put a bomb in a marathon. That’s how I felt in the bombing in Boston…HURT!!” Indeed it was an inhumane act that was executed by two young men. As a mother and American citizen, I condemn any act of this kind and our family and community’s thoughts and condolences are with the people who were injured and died in this horrific incident and also with their families and friends.
