FAMILY FUN JUNE 9 AT “JUST FOR KIDS FISHING DERBY”

Anglers 15 and under are invited to join the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County’s “cast” for a “reel” good time at the 27th-annual “Just for Kids Fishing Derby” on Sunday, June 9 from 8 a.m. to noon at Silver Lake at Blackwell Forest Preserve in Warrenville.
      Young anglers will get a chance to learn about fishing and advance their skills during this free family-friendly event. Prizes will be awarded to winners in four age groups for the largest fish in three species categories — bass, bluegill and miscellaneous — as well as to winners of the casting contest.
      Kids should bring their own gear, though bait will be provided while supplies last. The derby will take place rain or shine. Participants should register at the forest preserve the morning of the event.
      Blackwell Forest Preserve is located on the north side of Butterfield Road, one-quarter mile west of Winfield Road and one mile east of Route 59. For more information on the “Just for Kids Fishing Derby,” call Visitor Services weekdays at 630-933-7248.
