On Saturday, April 27th, Wheaton Warrenville South Godspell students made a difference in the lives of those in need in our community. Taking time out of their rehearsals, students packaged 180 “birthday bags” for children in the community served by the People’s Resource Center (PRC) in Wheaton.
The “birthday bags” are essentially a “party in a bag” for low income families who might not otherwise be able to celebrate their child’s birthday. Birthday bags include brownie mix, toy, birthday candles and plates, candy, party favors, a birthday card and more. PRC distributes the birthday bags to families who come to the food pantry.
According to Wheaton Warrenville South Theater Director Roberta James, the cast usually gives "tech" service hours by helping with the set, painting, etc. This year the cast wanted to do something in service to others, kids in particular, since that is one of the main themes of Godspell. James mentions that, “It was great bonding time for them. They also were able to ‘act’ upon what they teach to the audience - do for others, comfort others, give to others.” Pictures from the service project are attached.
