WHEATON, IL — A retail theft at Kohl's and a break-in attempt at a resident's home are among the crimes listed on the Wheaton Police blotter for late December and early January.
Fraudster Poses As DuPage County Sheriff's Office
A resident in the 2000 block of Blacksmith Drive got a phone call on Dec. 29 from someone claiming to be with the DuPage County Sheriff's Department. The caller told the victim they missed jury duty, and scammed the resident into sending cash to them electronically.

Wallet Swiped from Purse at Target
Someone stole a wallet from a purse from a shopper's cart at the Target at 601 S. County Farm Rd. The incident happened around 8:30 a.m. on Dec. 23.

Car Burlgarized
A backpack was stolen from a car that was parked in the 100 block of Wheaton Circle. Police say the theft took place between 9 p.m. on Dec. 31 and 12:50 p.m. on Jan. 1.
Retail Theft at Kohl's
Police say a woman entered the Kohl's on County Farm Road around 2 p.m. on Dec. 31, filled a cart with items and left without paying.
Break-In Attempted at Home
A resident told police someone tried to break into their home in the 1000 block of President Street on the morning of Jan. 4. According to the crime blotter, the home's back door had visible damage and pry marks.
