WASHINGTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, 911 Bridle Lane, Wheaton (Located at N. President St. and Bridle Lane, just south of Geneva Rd.)
June 18 - 8 AM to 8 PM June 19 - 8 AM to 5 PM June 20 - 8 AM to 2 PM
No admission fee. Over 12,000 books (including audio books) will be available as well as gently used board games and puzzles.
Most books are priced $2 to $3. Special lower pricing for children's books. Higher pricing for rare and collectible books.
Special Saturday Pricing: $10/first bag and $5/each subsequent bag.
Books available include:
<ul><li>Fiction: Novels, mysteries, science fiction, romance and young adult.</li><li>Non-Fiction: Histories, biographies, science/math, business, current events, sports, women’s, classics, gardening, cooking, crafts, and health/wellness.</li><li>Children’s: Pre-school picture books, elementary school first readers, story books and chapter books.</li></ul>
Sale proceeds will be primarily used to fund college scholarships for local high girls.

“Walk Today for Women Tomorrow”

Community Reporter/Philanthropy and Non Profit:

P.E.O. is one of the oldest women's organizations in North America, a Philanthropic Educational Organization with more than a half million women in the US and Canada with a total of 5500 chapters in North America. One local Chapter in Wheaton, Chapter NC, is participating in the organization nationwide "Walk Today for Women Tomorrow" fundraiser.
The propose of this fundraiser is to create awareness and help fund scholastic grants, scholarships, awards and loans for women of all ages pursuing their educational goals.
The walk begins at the parking lot of the First Presbyterian Church of Wheaton, 715 N. Carlton Ave., Wheaton, Illinois. There is a 20-, 30- or 40-minute mapped walk through the Wheaton neighborhood. The walk begins at 9:00 AM on July 13, 2026—if inclement weather, walk event will be held in the Ministry Center at First Pres—Wheaton. Participate by being a walker or sponsoring a walker with your donation.
Since its inception in 1869, P.E.O. has helped more than 125,000 women pursue their educational goals by providing over $435 million for this purpose.
All proceeds will help to fund the organization’s six International Projects, all classified as 501(c)(3) by the IRS. Outdoor concerts are held on Wheaton Public Library's West Plaza. While limited seating is provided, it is encouraged to bring chairs. Pickled! Wheaton

Bridge Communities will host its annual Pickleball Tournament on Saturday, August 1, at Pickled! Wheaton, bringing together players of all skill levels for some friendly competition that supports families facing homelessness.
Participants will bring their best to the court and compete against their fellow community members, while raising money to provide families facing homelessness in the Bridge program with the reliable transportation needed to put them on the road to success.
The event encourages mixed doubles teams and welcomes players looking to test their skills or simply enjoy time with friends.
Trophies, gift cards, and bragging rights will be awarded to the winning players. Tournament highlights include a gift for all players, refreshments, light bites, and lives transformed for families facing homelessness.
There will also be a Signature Raffle, featuring an unforgettable weekend at The American Club and an exclusive round of golf at the Medinah Country Club.
The tournament features two sessions: a morning advanced beginner/intermediate session from 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and an afternoon advanced session from 1-4:30 p.m.
Tickets are selling quickly as spots fill up. he cats we care for at St. Sophia’s come from many different places. The majority of the cats we help are those that are helpless, who have not experienced love or a home, stray, abused, and neglected cats. Primarily we work with high-volume/high-kill animal controls to save cats from needless euthanasia. Our largest partner is Chicago Animal Care and Control. Other ACs we partner with are Aurora, Joliet Township, DuPage, Herrin, Marion, Quincy, Tilton, Union, Jasper, and Whiting. St. Sophia’s also works with local Trap-Neuter-Return organizations. Trap-Neuter-Return (also known as TNR) is a method of humanely trapping unaltered feral cats, neutering them, and releasing them back to the same environment where they were originally found. TNR is promoted by proponents as a humane and more effective alternative for managing and reducing feral cat populations (compared to euthanasia). While most cats trapped are completely feral (wild, without any domestic socialization), some cats—often kittens, or even adults that have been well cared-for outdoors—can, and have, become socialized and adoptable. TNR organizations aren’t equipped to handle the “friendlies” that come in, so we step in to assist those cats looking for homes. Lastly, some of our cats are direct owner surrenders. Sometimes circumstances have it that people are unable to care for their cats due to moving, eviction, financial issues, death, allergies, etc. We accept these cats in when we have space and maintain a waiting list of those who need assistance.
