City Council Candidate Removed From Ballot
A City Council candidate was removed from the ballot after an objection ruling over his voter registration status at the time of filing.

A municipal electoral board decided Monday to remove one At-Large City Council candidate's name from the ballot because he was not a registered voter in Wheaton when he filed as a candidate last month.
Candidate John Prendiville earlier this month filed an , after finding Garcia was not a registered voter in Wheaton, and therefore did not meet the qualifications for candidacy.
According to the City of Wheaton, candidates must be registered voters of the City of Wheaton and must live within city limits for at least one year.

Prendiville, who is now running unopposed for the seat, said Monday he is glad his objection was sustained. "I do think it's important to fulfill the basic legal requirements before running for office," he said.
Garcia said he has consulted the DuPage Board of Elections to find out if he is eligible to run as a write-in candidate. He said the requirements for a write-in candidacy do not include anything about being a registered voter in Wheaton.

Prendiville said Garcia's voting history in Naperville would indicate he has not been a resident of Wheaton for one year.
He said he is waiting to hear whether he qualifies for a write-in campaign.
The consolidated election will be April 9, 2013.
