City of Wheaton Hosts First-Ever Pumpkin Dump

The pumpkin dump will be open this Saturday.

Submitted by the city of Wheaton

Don’t throw your pumpkins in the trash after Halloween, take them to the pumpkin dump. From 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 8, drive through the City’s Commuter Parking Lot 9 and dump your pumpkins at the City’s first-ever pumpkin compost collection.

Lot 9 is located near the intersection of Carlton Avenue and Liberty Drive. From there, pounds and pounds of pumpkins will be taken to Compost Supply for composting into nutrient-rich soil.

“Illinois grows more than 485 million pounds of pumpkins each year, which is more than any other state,” said Kay McKeen of the City’s Environmental Improvement Commission. “We are really excited about this new program because it will help recover some of the fantastic nutrients from pumpkins through composting, rather than fill up our landfills.”

This collection will be run by the City’s Environmental Improvement Commission, SCARCE and Advanced Disposal.
