College of DuPage Slapped With Slip-and-Fall Suit After Student Trips on Pipe

Lawsuit says pipe should have been removed and not laying across doorway to classroom.

A student at College of DuPage is suing the community college on claims he tripped on a protruding pipe in a classroom.

Student Vito Basile alleges he was walking into the first-floor lab in the college’s Technical Building on Nov. 20, 2013 when he tripped and fell over a metal pipe protruding across the doorway of a classroom lab.

The lawsuit contends that Basile tripped and fell, injuring his head and limbs. The pipe was on a wooden pallet.

Basile claims that the college was negligent in removing the pipe so that students wouldn’t trip over it. As a result of the fall, he’s had to spend large sums of money for medical costs.

The student is asking for damages of $50,000 or more.
