Cops To Crack Down On Drunk Drivers For Labor Day In DuPage County

As Labor Day approaches, the DuPage County Sheriff's Office will increase patrols to target drunk and impaired drivers.

WHEATON, IL — As Labor Day approaches, the DuPage County Sheriff's Office is increasing patrols to target drunk and impaired drivers.

The safety campaign begins Aug. 18 and will continue into the morning of Sept. 5.

Police will also be on the lookout for seatbelt violations, distracted driving and other risky behavior.

“Our first priority is to keep people safe, so we’re asking everyone to plan ahead for a sober ride home if they’ll be drinking or using another impairing substance,” Sheriff James Mendrick shared in a statement.

He added, “Let’s make this a partnership between law enforcement and motorists: Help us protect the community and put an end to the dangers of impaired driving.”

The Labor Day safety initiative is part of a statewide effort funded in part by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
