Council Votes No on Electric Car-Chargers in Wheaton
Wheaton City Council members say they coudn't justify the $11K cost to install 2 charging stations in the Wheaton Place parking garage.

Electric car-charging stations won’t be part of Wheaton’s immediate future thanks to a City Council decision last week.
Council members voted April 27 not to fund two stations in the Wheaton Place parking garage, 232 W. Wesley St., claiming they couldn’t justify the cost right now, according to a Chicago Tribune report.
The estimated cost of the stations would have been $11,000 and was being touted by the Wheaton Environmental Improvement Commission as way to bring younger consumers to the downtown, the report stated. State records show 22 electric vehicles registered in the city and 363 of them in DuPage County, the report added.

Along with the initial installation costs, the council also feared the stations would be a drain on city resources because of routine maintenance, data collection and electrical demands, the report stated. Ultimately, council members said they couldn’t justify such a little return on investment for Wheaton, the report added.
