Crime Statistics Portal Aims To Improve Transparency In DuPage Co

The new portal features crime data from the DuPage County Sheriff's Office, but may be expanded to include statistics for municipalities.

DUPAGE COUNTY, IL — A new portal debuted by the DuPage County Sheriff's Office aims to help residents stay in the know about crime in the county by providing current data, crime maps, year-over-year statistics and more.

The Transparency and Crime Statistics Portal is an "important initiative," DuPage County Judicial and Public Safety Committee Chairwoman Julie Renehan said in a statement.

Renehan said the platform will "provide residents with accurate local crime data, while also highlighting the critical work law enforcement provides in keeping our communities safe."

The portal features different data categories that include:

  • Crimes against people
  • Crimes against property
  • Crimes against society

The site's crime maps allow users to zero in on specific areas and filter their search by crime type, along with the date range and the time of day the crime was committed. Specific addresses and victim information will not be shared on the portal, officials said.

"We’re always looking for ways to increase transparency at the County. This is a great first step and the County will continue to look for additional avenues to provide data to residents," DuPage County Technology Committee Chairwoman Ashley Selmon said in a statement.

The DuPage County Sheriff's Office hopes to later expand the portals services to give access to individual municipalities.
