DuPage Cops Issue 42 Tickets During St. Patrick's Day Crackdown

The DuPage County Sheriff's Office doled out dozens of speeding tickets and other citations amid increased patrols for St. Patrick's Day.

DUPAGE COUNTY, IL — Police issued 42 tickets for speeding, distracted driving and other violations during a recent crackdown by the DuPage County Sheriff's Office for St. Patrick's Day.

A total of 28 speeding tickets were doled out during the safety campaign, which was conducted from March 11 through March 18. Additionally, 14 citations were given for the following violations:

  • Distracted driving
  • Improper license plate display
  • Transporting of open alcohol

One person was arrested for driving without a valid license.

“We strongly enforce traffic laws for one reason – to save lives,” DuPage County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Justin Kmitch said in a news release.

Kmitch added, “Encouraging sober driving and seatbelt use improves safety for all.”

The initiative, which was part of the statewide Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over and Click It or Ticket campaigns, was funded in part by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
