DuPage County Cops To Target Drunk Drivers For Fourth Of July

DUPAGE COUNTY, IL — The DuPage County Sheriff's Officec plans to crack down on drunk drivers during a Fourth of July safety campaign that will be in effect starting June 16.

“It’s simple: If you’re driving, don’t drink or use marijuana or other drugs,” spokesperson Justin Kmitch said in a statement. “Our officers will be working around the clock to keep impaired drivers off the road and enforce all other traffic laws.”

The sheriff's office shared the following tips to help drivers stay safe this Independence Day:

• Give keys to a designated driver
• Prevent friends or family members from driving while drunk or impaired
• Call a taxi, rideshare service or use transit if too impaired to drive
• Call 911 if you spot a drunk driver
• Make sure drivers and passengers in your vehicle wear their seatbelts

This Fourth of July initiative is part of the statewide "Click It or Ticket" and "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaigns and is being supported by over 200 law enforcement agencies in Illinois.

The campaign runs through July 5.
