DuPage County Historical Museum wins exhibit award

1917 exhibit wins award from Illinois Association of Museum

The DuPage County Historical Museum recently received an Award of Merit for their exhibit “1917: Catalyst for the Modern Era” from the Illinois Association of Museums.

Every year, the Illinois Association of Museums celebrates the best in Illinois museums, from service awards to lifetime achievements to best practices excellence. The DuPage County Historical Museum detailed their planning process for the exhibit – which featured research, choosing objects, designing the galleries, developing marketing materials, and organizing associated events – and an evaluation of its effectiveness. They supported their nomination with photographs of the exhibit on display, sample label copy, drawings showing the layout and size of the exhibit space and a general description of what was exhibited.

The exhibit was developed by former curator Ashley Downing and was partially funded by a donation from the Snodgrass Family Fund of the DuPage Foundation. A catalog for the exhibit was also created, which can still be purchased at the Museum gift shop.

On October 4, 2018, Museum Curator Zachary Bishop attended the IAM Awards in Springfield, Ill. at the Kidzeum of Health and Science.

“It was a great honor for our peers to recognize the Museum’s hard work and dedication to sharing history with the public. ‘1917’ was one of many important and exciting projects that Illinois museums have completed in the past year,” Bishop said.
