DuPage County Offers Bivalent Booster For Kids Ages 5 to 11

As of Oct. 20, the DuPage County Health Department is offering bivalent booster vaccines against coronavirus for kids ages five to 11.

DUPAGE COUNTY, IL — The DuPage County Health Department (DCHD) is now offering free bivalent booster shots against coronavirus for children between the ages of five and 11 years old.

“Having the updated bivalent booster available for children ages 5 and older means we have another opportunity to protect this younger age group,” Karen Ayala, Executive Director of DuPage County Health Department, said in a statement.

Ayala added, “Making sure our kids are vaccinated and up to date can help them safely enjoy the school year and spend time with friends and family."

In mid-October, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) expanded the administration of bivalent boosters to include children ages five to 11. An Oct. 12 news release from the CDC said, "Updated COVID-19 vaccines add Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 spike protein components to the current vaccine composition, helping to restore protection that has waned since previous vaccination and targeting recent Omicron variants that are more transmissible and immune-evading."
