DuPage County Offers Free Opioid Deactivation Kits
The kits are designed to deactivate opioids to help users stay safe.

DUPAGE COUNTY, IL — DuPage County Sheriff James Mendrick announced Friday that the sheriff's office will offer free DETERRA opioid deactivation kits. The kits, which are designed to help opiate users by deactivating opioids, will be available at the DuPage County Sheriff's Office's Communication Center and at special events.
The sheriff's office will debut the DETERRA pouches at the DuPage County Fair, offering them at no cost "should anyone be in need of one," according to a post on social media. The pouches are part of an ongoing effort by DuPage law enforcement to help curb the ongoing opioid epidemic.
Opiate users can deactivate drugs that they don't want in their home with DETERRA pouches by placing the opioids in the pouch's water soluble pod, shaking the pouch to neutralize the drug's active ingredient, and then disposing of the pouch, which is biodegradable.
