DuPage County Pushes Back Court Dates Amid Coronavirus Shutdown

Many civil and criminal court dates have been pushed back past at least May 15.

DUPAGE COUNTY, IL — In the wake of the new coronavirus shutdown, DuPage County Chief Judge Daniel P. Guerin signed an administrative order to push back criminal and civil court dates after May 15. Court dates will be rescheduled 30 to 60 days out from the original court date, according to an update from county officials.

Residents will also get notices by mail for the following court issues:

  • Traffic
  • Misdemeanor offenses
  • Juvenile
  • Specialty courts
  • Small claims
  • Foreclosures and evictions

Several courts are also closed amid the coronavirus crisis. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Downers Grove traffic court
  • Addison traffic court
  • DuPage County Courthouse Traffic Courtrooms 1001 and 1003

To practice social distancing, the DuPage County Courthouse is conducting a number of scheduled hearings and other matters via phone or video conferencing. Some of these include:

  • Bail hearings
  • Felony and misdemeanor issues with in-custody defendants or speedy trial demands
  • Juvenile Detention, Shelter Care Hearings and matters with a minor in custody
  • Petitions and Hearings on emergency and plenary orders of protection, stalking no-contact orders, civil no-contact orders and firearm restraining orders
  • Mental health hearings
  • Emergency motions

At press time, jury trials are suspended until at least May 18. Weddings and civil ceremonies are suspended until at least May 22.
