DuPage County Sheriff's Plans Halloween Crackdown

The sheriff's office will increase patrols for impaired drivers this Halloween.

DUPAGE COUNTY, IL — The DuPage County Sheriff's Office plans to increase patrols to deter impaired driving this Halloween season.

“Halloween is scary enough without adding impaired driving to the mix,” Sheriff’s Office
Spokesman Justin Kmitch said in a news release. “Because even one drink can impair your ability to make responsible decisions, we urge you to make a plan for a sober ride home before you start the celebration.”

In the news release, the sheriff's office reminded drivers that they can be impaired not just by alcohol, but by weed and other drugs.

They recommend the following steps to help ensure a safe Halloween. They added the tips apply to those who are walking while impaired, as well as driving:

  • Designate a sober driver
  • Take public transportation
  • Use a rideshare app
  • Use a local sober ride program

The sheriff's office added that if you see an impaired driver, you should call local law enforcement as soon as it's safe to do so.
