DuPage County Weighs Recreational Pot Sales
DuPage County officials are discussing how recreational pot sales would work if approved in the county's unincorporated areas.
DUPAGE COUNTY, IL -- DuPage County officials are weighing the pros and cons of recreational pot sales throughout the county's unincorporated areas and the rules that would go into effect in areas that approve sales. One of the topics up for discussions includes how far a recreational dispensary should be located from a school, Chicago Tribune reports.
The discussions come as municipalities throughout the county weigh how to address recreational marijuana sales after they were approved statewide in June. Municipalities can opt in to allow sales when they go into effect on Jan. 1, 2020 or can opt out to prohibit sales within their limits.
At Tuesday's meeting, DuPage County discussed limiting recreational marijuana businesses to being 1000 feet or more from residential areas, schools, or child care centers. If this rule were in effect, only a limited number of locations would be able to accommodate the restriction.
