DuPage PADS Closes Overnight Shelters Amid Coronavirus Shutdown
The shelters also urgently need several items for donation.

DUPAGE COUNTY, IL — DuPage PADS has temporarily closed its interim overnight shelters amid ongoing coronavirus concerns. The announcement comes after Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker announced a statewide stay-at-home order through April 7.
In a statement on their website, DuPage PADS officials said "the decision to close is not taken lightly."

The interim shelter closure affects DuPage PADS sites in Glen Ellyn, Bloomingdale, Itasca, Carol Stream, Wooddale, Wheaton, Medinah, Lombard, West Chicago, Downers Grove, Hinsdale, Clarendon Hills and Naperville.

What's Happening To Clients
They added that they are working with clients to get them "alternative stable housing options indefinitely." According to the website, elderly clients and those with "serious health problems" are getting assistance to stay at hotels and motels.

DuPage PADS added that they are checking in with these clients daily to ensure they have food and other needs met.
The organizations added that for its other clients, "we are working tirelessly to ensure every client has a temporary housing plan in place though our respite/recuperation program, family reunification and other services available in our area."
Client Services Canceled
The change includes canceling client services until further notice. The Client Service Center at 703 W. Liberty and the Career Employment Solutions building at 705 W. Liberty are closed until further notice.
DuPage PADS added that the Client Service Center will take phone calls "during this weekend" to help clients with questions and housing issues.

Items Needed For Donation
Throughout the closure, DuPage PADS will accept specific donations. General donations will not be accepted. The following items can be dropped off in donation boxes located at 703 W. Liberty. Hours are Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday-Sunday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
