Blood Drive Honors Patriot Day on 9/11

In observance of Patriot Day, the City of Wheaton Police and Fire departments will be co-sponsoring a blood drive on Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012. The drive will take place at the Wheaton Police Department, 900 W. Liberty Drive, Wheaton, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. LifeSource Blood Services will operate the blood drive.

The Wheaton Police and Fire departments in partnership with LifeSource Blood Services will be participating in the Everyday Heroes Police, Fire and EMS Giveback Program. Points will be earned for each participating donor, and upon fulfillment of required donations, a monetary donation will be made by LifeSource to the Hundred Club of DuPage County. The Hundred Club offers assistance to families of law enforcement and fire personnel who have been killed or injured.

One blood donation can help save three lives. LifeSource must register 1,500 donors every 24 hours to meet patients’ needs in the Chicago area. The goal for this blood drive is a minimum of 35 appointments.

Blood donation opportunities will be available to anyone wishing to donate. If you are interested in setting up an appointment to donate blood, visit www.lifesource.org and select “donate blood,” then “find a mobile blood drive.” If you need assistance with registration or you have questions, contact Sherry at the Wheaton Police Department at 630-260-4861.

Wheaton’s next blood drive will be May 17, 2013.
