For Earth Week 2011, the League of Women Voters of Wheaton and A Rocha of Wheaton College, a student chapter of an international conservation organization, will present TAR CREEK.
The program, free and open to the public, will take place in Barrows Auditorium in the Billy Graham Center at 500 College Avenue in Wheaton. It will be on Saturday, April 16, 2011 from 2:00-4:30 PM.
TAR CREEK is a documentary about an environmental disaster in Pitcher, Oklahoma. Following the film, there will be a panel discussion contrasting the Tar Creek failure with the successfully cleaned up Superfund sites in DuPage County. The goal of the program is to make the public more aware of how Superfund sites affect our communities and how to become more involved in the fight for environmental and human health.
