Fire Engulfs Wheaton Metra Station, Ticket Office Closed
Fire crews battled a blaze at the Wheaton Metra station late Wednesday night.

WHEATON, IL — Fire crews responded to reports of a blaze late Wednesday at the Wheaton Metra station. The fire broke out around 11 p.m. and was quickly upgraded to a box alarm, which designates a high-risk fire, according to a report from Tri-State Fire Alert.
Several fire trucks and emergency vehicles swarmed the scene and fire crews were finally able to get the flames under control.
Metra UP-W said Thursday morning that the ticket office would be closed until further notice, but normal train operations were set to resume.

According to a release from Wheaton village officials, the fire started in a storage room and "appears to be related to a malfunctioning heater unit." The official cause of the fire is still under investigation.
