Flu Risk Still High, COVID And RSV Risk Moderate In DuPage County

The risk of influenza continues to be high in DuPage County, whereas the COVID and RSV risk has been upgraded from low to moderate.

DUPAGE COUNTY — The risk of influenza remains high in DuPage County, according to recent data from the DuPage County Health Department (DCHD). Data shows DCHD upgraded the risk level for coronavirus (COVID) and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) from "low" to "moderate."

At the start of the year, the county's flu cases had been classified as "high" and "rising." As of the data from the week ending Jan. 17, flu cases are "high," but remain "steady."

The risk for COVID and RSV, though labeled as "moderate," also remains steady.

Six people were hospitalized in intensive care (ICU) in DuPage County between Jan. 11 and Jan. 17 for influenza and six were hospitalized in the ICU for COVID. Two patients had been admitted to the ICU for RSV symptoms.

So far, during the 2025-26 flu season, 74 people had been admitted to ICU for influenza-related symptoms, 51 for COVID and 25 for RSV. No deaths had been reported as a result of those admissions.

As of Jan. 17, the risk for influenza, RSV and COVID was labeled as "moderate" in Illinois, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH).
