This past week marked the eighth anniversary of the death of Army Staff Sergeant Robert J. Miller.

This past week marked the eighth anniversary of the death of Army Staff Sergeant Robert J. Miller, a Wheaton North High School graduate. Miller was killed in Afghanistan on Jan. 25, 2008.

Miller was awarded the Medal of Honor in 2010.

Miller’s memory lives on in Wheaton through the Robert J. Miller home, which offers affordable housing for low-income veterans, according to the Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans. MSHV opened the shelter in 2012 at 111 N. West Street in Wheaton.

“Midwest Shelter remembers our hometown hero year-round, and especially (on) January 25th,” MSHV wrote on its Facebook page on Monday. “Thank you Sgt. Robert J. Miller for your ultimate sacrifice.”

A full profile on Miller’s life, and his military accomplishments, can be found on the U.S. Army website.
