Holiday Lights Recycling Underway In Wheaton

WHEATON, IL — As residents in Wheaton start decorating for the holiday season, it's almost inevitable that they'll come across those dreaded strands of lights that have burnt out. Wheaton Public Works Storage Facility will accept strands of incandescent and LED holiday lights for recycling through Jan. 21.

Residents can drop off their lights at 820 W. Liberty Dr. on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Signs are posted to help you navigate to the recycling area, which is located inside the storage facility's gate.

The lights will be collected by Elgin Recycling, which will strip them and recycle the plastic and copper locally.

In addition to residents, schools, businesses and other organizations can recycle their lights. There is no limit to the amount of lights that can be recycled.
