Hooked on Helping at Hubble Middle School in D200
Teachers, instructional aides, and a retired secretary at Hubble Middle School have been awarded an IEA SCORE grant.
Teachers, instructional aides, and a retired secretary at Hubble Middle School in District 200 have been awarded an Illinois Education Association SCORE Grant of $300.00 for their Hooked on Helping club. According to the IEA, the purpose of the Schools and Community Outreach by Educators (SCORE) grant “is to encourage early career members and their local associations to collaborate and create opportunities for community service projects, or school projects. Proposals should be substantive and meaningful. They should build visible foundations for deeper relationships with students, families and communities.” Hooked on Helping meets all of those requirements because it is an after school activity that meets every Wednesday to teach and encourage students to knit or crochet. The completed handmade items are donated to Snug Hugs For Kids who then distributes the items to area shelters. All students are welcome and encouraged to attend Hooked on Helping.
WWEA Members involved in Hooked on Helping include:
- Terrie Tudor
- Mary Lappa
- Jill Goetz
- Dawn Harrington
- Becky Palmer
- Sandi Johnson
- Donna Flick
The WWEA would like to thank its members listed from Hubble Middle School for researching alternate funding sources to help support and give back to our community. #IEAhelpsout
