Chicago street photographer Vivian Maier has taken the world by storm with her extraordinary photos of the everyday lives of Chicagoans. But her work was not fully revealed—or appreciated—until after her death in 2009.
Maier worked as a nanny by day, while taking snapshots in her spare time. More than 100,000 of her negatives, found in an abandoned storage locker, made their way to historians and archivists who recognized their value. Her story is as compelling as her work.
Some of the found work of this nanny photographer was compiled into the book, “Out of the Shadows” by Richard Cahan and Michael Williams. At 1 p.m. Thursday, April 10, dramatic reviewer Jenny Riddle will present this extraordinary book at Prairie Path Books, located inside Toms-Price Home Furnishings, 303 Front St., Wheaton.
