Lawrence Schroeder of Wheaton died Thursday, Aug. 11. He was 52.

Lawrence J. Schroeder of Wheaton died Thursday, Aug. 11. He was 52.

He was born in Chicago on November 22, 1958.

He was an Eagle Scout and graduate of the University of Illinois Engineering College. He worked as a software engineer for Alcatel-Lucent for 30 years. He enjoyed camping, photography, and traveling including his annual trip to Oshkosh, WI for the air show every July.

An avid aviator involved with EAA Chapter 579, he enjoyed spending Sundays introducing kids to the joy of flight. Involved with the Wheaton Amateur Radio Community for over 30 years, he enjoyed attending a yearly Hamfest in Dayton, OH. He was the treasurer/secretary of the Illinois Repeater Association. He was known as KA9KDC to his many amateur radio friends.

He is survived by his wife, Carol; three daughters, Samantha, Kelsey and Meghan; his parents; Lillian and Harry; two brothers, David and Russell; a sister, Jennifer; and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation was held Sunday, Aug. 14 at Williams-Kampp Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers contributions to his children's education fund are appreciated.
