Make A Difference Day: How To Help In Wheaton

Wheaton residents can donate food and other items for Make A Difference Day on Oct. 28.

WHEATON, IL — Saturday, Oct. 28 is "Make A Difference Day," a national event that brings out thousands of people to contribute to their communities. Wheaton has several events planned for Make A Difference Day, so residents will have plenty of opportunities to brighten the day for someone in need.

Donuts For Donations

'Tis the season to quench your craving for apple cider donuts while giving back to the community. Residents can bring clothing, food, and other items to City Hall at 303 Wesley St. on Oct. 28 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The donations will go to the Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans, the People's Resource Center, and PADS. As a way of expressing their thanks, the Wheaton Community Relations Committee will be on hand with coffee and delicious apple cider donuts. Residents are also urged to bring new or broken crayons to the Donuts for Donations Drive. The broken crayons will be used by SCARCE to make new crayons for children with special needs.

Stuff-a-Truck Food Drive's Food For Fines

Wheaton's People's Resource Center has been collecting non-perishable food items and monetary donationsfor its Stuff-a-Truck Food Drive to assist families in need. If you donate items at Wheaton Public Library on Oct. 28, you'll receive $5 off any overdue book fines you owe to library.

Make A Difference Day, often referred to as the "national day of good," was started in 1992 with the aim of "improving the lives of others" by offering goods and services to those in need.
