Prosecutors said the accident happened when Jimenez was traveling at “a high rate of speed” around a curve on Sheffield Lane in Wheaton when he lost control and crashed into a tree.
Jimenez and another passenger in the car were taken to an area hospital following the crash.
The passenger in the car was seriously injured and Jimenez registered a blood alcohol content of .09, which is slightly above the legal limit of .08.
“It is important to remember that if you have been drinking do not get behind the wheel of a car,” said DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin. “Alcohol consumption impairs your ability to drive and can potentially lead to fatal consequences, as we saw in this case.”
