WHEATON, IL — Part of Manchester Road will be closed to allow crews to install a sewer main.

The closure will take effect June 12 between Dorchester Avenue and Gables Boulevard. Detours will be in effect as follows:

  • Westbound traffic should take Gables to Childs Street and Childs to Woodlawn
  • Eastbound traffic should take Dorchester to Childs Street, and then Childs Street to Gables Boulevard

Officials say commuters can expect delays and are encouraged to find alternate routes. It's expected the road closure will last about two weeks.

The work on Dorchester Avenue is part of the Northside Interceptor Sewer Replacement Project, which the Wheaton Sanitary District began in May 2021. This phase of the project's aim is to rebuild, replace and upgrade pipes along the sewer system north of Roosevelt Road.
