Men Break Into VFW Post, Steal Donation Jar In Wheaton: Police

DuPage County Sheriff's police are searching for three men who allegedly stole money from a VFW donation jar.

WHEATON, IL — DuPage County Police are trying to find three people suspected of breaking into the VFW Memorial Post 2164 in Wheaton and stealing from the post's donation jar. The incident took place June 22 at 0N731 Papworth Street at around 2:30 a.m., according to My Suburban Life.

My Suburban Life reports that post Commander Leo Penkala said on Facebook that security footage showed the suspects allegedly entering through a window in the post's canteen. They then reportedly attempted to remove a cash register before taking money from the donation jar. Penkala also wrote that the suspects set off an alarm, which caused one man to remove his mask, according to My Suburban Life.

Police may use this camera footage to conduct an ongoing investigation to identify the men who stole the VFW post donation jar. In an email to My Suburban life, DuPage County Detective Dave Webster called it "an open investigation."
