O'Hare Runway Rotation Plan Begins this Summer

The six-month test is intended suburban communities by spreading overnight aircraft noise across the region.

Submission by the city of Wheaton

This summer, O’Hare Airport will begin a six-month test for a Runway Rotation Plan during overnight hours. The plan – which was developed by the O’Hare Noise Compatibility Commission, Chicago Department of Aviation and Suburban O’Hare Commission – is intended to benefit suburban communities by spreading overnight aircraft noise across the region based upon a set weekly calendar, providing predictability to residents and relief from aircraft noise.

Once this plan begins, communities surrounding the airport will all experience some noise impact from the airport, but no single community will bear the burden of all of the noise impact from O’Hare. You can view the runway rotation plans and share your feedback through this online survey.
