Owner Of Jack Straw's Pizza Dies Months After Restaurant Closes

William G. Hood, owner of the beloved Jack Straw's Pizza, has died at 63.

WHEATON, IL — William G. Hood, who owned the beloved Jack Straw's Pizza in Wheaton for 35 years, has died. Hood, 63, closed the restaurant in June and was just months into his retirement when he died on Nov. 24.

In his 35 years at Jack Straw's, Hood's focus on made-to-order pizza and homemade entrees nurtured an inviting atmosphere that Wheaton residents couldn't resist. When the restaurant announced it was closing in June, heartbroken residents responded with shock and sadness.

In addition to runnning Jack Straw's Pizza and Rosati's in Woodridge for more than three decades, Hood was a dog lover, a musician, and an avid golfer, according to his obituary. Hood is survived by his wife of 39 years, Kimberlee, and his children, Samuel, Jessica, Ashlee, and Lucas.

The Jack Straw's website included a quote that reflected Hood's passion for his life's work. He wrote, "any one can sell a burger and call it fast food, but what I believe we do is provide people with a delicious piece of americana [sic] unique to the Chicago area."

Bill Hood and Jack Straw's provided people with much more than a slice of Americana; he gave them a loving community and great memories that will last for years to come.
