Endorsements Go to Roskam, Ives in 2012 Election

Illinois 6th Congressional District
Peter Roskam (R) over Leslie Coolidge (D)
The Chicago Tribune wrote in the last couple years, Roskam has become "one of the more influential Republicans in Illinois and on Capitol Hill," with a focus on fundamental economic issues and the stature he developed as a member of the Ways and Means Committee and chief deputy whip.
The Daily Herald wrote Roskam has established himself as a "leader with influence," and is a player in "how Washington fixes economic challenges facing the country."

Senate District 24
The Chicago Tribune endorsed incumbent Kirk Dillard (R).
42nd Representative District
Jeanne Ives over William Adams

The Chicago Tribune wrote Ives is a "no-nonsense" member of the Wheaton City Council, and is eager to cast unpopular votes. "The best thing the party can do for her is stay out of her way," according to the Tribune.
The Daily Herald also endorsed Jeanne Ives (R) over William Adams (D) in House District 42.
"She has studied the issues, met with community leaders and not only understands how state government works, but also how it doesn't work," according to the Herald. The Herald wrote Adams, while "well-intentioned," do not emphasize the immediate need for action and results.

DuPage County Board
District 4: Grant Eckhoff, J.R. McBride and Amy Grant over Dan Bailey and Charles Ditchman
Eckhoff and McBride are "conscientious" board members deserving of another term, the Daily Herald reported.
District 6: Dirk Enger, Robert Larsen and James Zay over Dave Barry, Lauren Nowak and Kevin Wiley
The Daily Herald reported: Enger is "knowledgeable" and gets involved beyond meeting attendance, Larsen led the effort to close the youth home and Zay has business experience and experience with making difficult decisions.
DuPage County Forest Preserve
Tim Whelan over Robert Flesvig in District 4
The Daily Herald wrote while both candidates, Whelan (R) and Robert Flesvig (D), stress fiscal responsibility, but differ on how to spend the district's money. The Herald endorsed Whalen for his focus on land acquisition, improvements at existing facilities, more commissioner involvement and long-term planning.
Shannon Burns (D) over Al Murphy (R) in District 6
The Daily Herald wrote: Both candidates have run in the past and are better candidates in this election. They share similar views and both say they will reject pensions and move to cut commissioner salaries.
DuPage Circuit Court Clerk
Chris Kachiroubas over Ralph Scalise
The Daily Herald wrote Republican incumbent Chris Kachiroubas, who runs the DuPage County courthouse "efficiently," and has made major strides in working toward a paperless court system. The Chicago Tribune also endorsed Kachiroubas. He has "slimmed down his office over the last eight years and bulked up the county's effort to collect overdue fines and court costs, netting millions for the county," the Tribune reported.
