Phyllis Thompson, 85, Jan. 4, 1926 - Aug. 7, 2011

Phyllis M. Thompson of Wheaton died Sunday, Aug. 7 in Rockford. She was 85.

She was born January 4, 1926 in Chicago to Felix and Emma Gronke.

She married Howard Thompson in August of 1948. They moved to Wheaton in 1952 where he worked as a vice-president of Wheaton National Bank.

She was an active volunteer with Hines Veterans Hospital for over 50 years and for many years volunteered at Central DuPage Hospital. She was a past president of the VFW Women's Auxiliary in Wheaton. She was a founding member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Wheaton.

She is survived by her son, Tom; and one grandson, Adam Thompson.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Howard Thompson; her parents; and two sisters.

A funeral service was held Thursday, August 11 at St. John Lutheran Church, 125 E. Seminary, Wheaton, IL 60187. Memorial gifts may be directed to St. John Lutheran Church.
