Reaction to U.S. Airstrike on Syria from Congressman Roskam

He called the U.S. airstrike on Syria "bold" and "decisive," but stresses that more must be done to help the people of Syria.

U.S. Representative Peter Roskam, who represents Wheaton, Glen Ellyn and Downers Grove called the U.S. missile strike on Shayrat Airfield in Syria, “bold, decisive action.” Roskam hopes the President will work with him and other members of Congress to end the Assad family’s “tyrannical reign,” he said in a statement regarding the U.S. attack in reaction to the Assad regime’s previous chemical attack.

Roskam acknowledged that airstrikes will not solve the problem on their own. As the U.S. moves forward in its strategy against Assad, Representative Roskam stresses the need for a “comprehensive strategy to end the tyrannical regime of the Assad family and free the Syrian people from the grip of Iran and Russia.”

The U.S. Military’s Tomahawk missile strike on Shayrat Airfield took place last Thursday. During the airstrike, the military launched 59 missiles at the airbase, killing six people. Since the Syrian civil war began in 2011, this is the first direct military response from the United States.
