Rep. Grant to Host U.S. Citizenship Seminar

WHEATON – State Representative Amy Grant (R-Wheaton) is hosting a workshop to help legal permanent residents navigate the complicated U.S. citizenship application process. The workshop will be held in conjunction with St. Andrews Lutheran Church, along with Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights and its partners. Volunteers from various local organizations will be on hand to assist applicants in completing the necessary forms and documents to become a U.S. citizen. The workshop will be held at St. Andrews Lutheran Church in West Chicago on Saturday, November 9 from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.

“Becoming a U.S. citizen is a privilege so many dream about, but it can be a long and difficult process,” said Grant. “This event will feature experts to help permanent residents and their families navigate the process and provide additional resources for those seeking to establish permanent residency.

“Our country is a nation of immigrants and I am happy to provide a seminar that helps people pursue the legal path to citizenship and live the American dream.”

To be eligible for U.S. citizenship, you must be a Lawful Permanent Resident of the United States for at least 5 years, or married to a U.S. citizen for 3 at least years. If you apply for naturalization less than six months before your Permanent Resident (Green) Card expires, or do not apply for naturalization until your card has already expired, you must renew your card, this service is offered at the workshop. You can apply for naturalization before you receive your new Green Card, but you will need to submit a photocopy of the receipt of your Form I-90, Application to Replace Permanent Resident Card.

Applicants are advised to bring all required documents with them to the workshop. A list of required documents can be found at www.uscis.gov/n-400.
