Report of Man With Gun Forces Wheaton Police to ‘Close Off’ Area Saturday Evening: Police

Wheaton Police Chief James Volpe said an area near Blanchard and Roosevelt roads was closed off until the person was arrested.

WHEATON, IL - Wheaton police arrested a person following an incident Saturday evening in the area of Blanchard and Roosevelt roads in Wheaton, Wheaton Police Chief James Volpe said in an e-mail response Monday.

Police were called to the area after receiving a report of a man with a gun in the area, Volpe said. They then “closed off the area” until police could locate “the individual and take him into custody.”

“No one was injured and there is not a current threat to the community in that area,” Volpe said in the e-mail. Police did not provide anymore information as of 4 p.m. Monday regarding the incident or the suspect.

Several Wheaton Patch Facebook followers reached out to Patch in recent days regarding the incident. Area residents said police officers with their rifles out were blocking the intersection of Blanchard and Roosevelt around 7 p.m. on Saturday. Others mentioned some sort of situation happening at the CVS.

Patch was unable to confirm any of those details as of 4 p.m. Monday and will update with more information as it becomes available.
