Road Closures In Wheaton For Turkey Trot, Holiday Parade

WHEATON, IL — Some roads in Wheaton will be closed during Thanksgiving weekend to make way for the city's Turkey Trot 5K and the annual holiday parade. If you're taking these routes, expect to run into some delays.

Nov. 23 Turkey Trot 5K

On Thanksgiving morning, the Emerson School Turkey Trot 5K will cause temporary road closures from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Here are the roads that will be closed, according to the City of Wheaton website:

  • South Woodlawn Street between Childs Street and West Liberty Drive
  • West Liberty Drive between North Woodlawn and North Morgan Avenue
  • North Morgan Avenue between West Liberty Drive and Manchester Road
  • Manchester Road between North Morgan Avenue and Birch Drive
  • Birch Drive between Manchester Road and Beecher Avenue
  • Beecher Avenue between Birch Drive and Graf Park
  • South Hazelton Avenue between Manchester Road and Williams Street
  • Williams Street between South Hazelton Avenue and South Erie Street
  • South Erie Street between Williams Street and Childs Street
  • Childs Street between South Erie Street and South Dorchester Avenue
  • South Dorchester Avenue between Childs Street and Lakeside Drive
  • Lakeside Drive between South Dorchester Avenue and South Gables Boulevard
  • South Gables Boulevard between Lakeside Drive and Childs Street
  • Childs Street between South Gables Boulevard and South Woodlawn Street, and
  • Sunnybrook Lane at both entrances.

Karlskoga Avenue will be closed from 11 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 24 through 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 25.

Wheaton's annual Holiday Parade might create a bit of a traffic snag for those residents who aren't in attendance. According to the city's website, the following closures will be in effect from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. so the parade can make its way through downtown Wheaton:

  • Wheaton Avenue between Union Avenue and Front Street.
  • Wesley Street between Scott Street and Wheaton Avenue.
  • Hale Street between Liberty Drive and Union Street.
  • Front Street between Wheaton Avenue and Cross Street.
  • Cross Street between Willow Avenue & Wesley Street.
