Chili Cook Off Held This Weekend in Downtown Wheaton

Spice It Up! 6th Annual Chili Cook Off

The air is cooler and the colors are crisper- must be Fall in Downtown Wheaton and that means it’s time for the annual Chili Cook Off! The public is invited to purchase tickets, grab a spoon and taste the variety of chili recipes served up in the various Downtown Wheaton establishments on Saturday, November 1st. Last year, over 900 chili enthusiasts spent the afternoon going from restaurant to restaurant, sampling chili and casting their vote for their favorite.

The day also features a Waiters’ Race at 3pm on Front Street and wait staff will proudly represent their respective downtown restaurants as they maneuver through an obstacle course while balancing cups of water. It’s fun and friendly competition and the winners will receive gift certificates and other prizes.

This year the Downtown Wheaton Association will also be hosting a Critic’s Choice blind tasting competition for the participating restaurants. The blind tasting will take place in the Downtown Wheaton Association offices at 108 East Wesley Street at 12:30pm. The winners of the Critic’s Choice category will be announced at the end of the day when the public voting results are also announced.

The Chili Cook Off wraps up shortly after 5pm with an awards ceremony at last year’s first place winner- Ivy Restaurant- 120 North Hale Street.
