Thousands of Ash Trees Now Removed from Wheaton Parkways

Get up-to-date on recent tree removal progress and find out what is next.

As crews continue an accelerated program to take down emerald ash borer-infested trees, the number of parkway ash trees in Wheaton is quickly decreasing.

Of the approximately 6,500 ash trees that lined Wheaton parkways before the infestation, crews have removed all but about 2,800. A new video with Forestry Superintendent Kevin Maloney will bring you up-to-date on recent tree removal progress. Also, find out what you can expect if you have a parkway ash tree scheduled for removal, and learn about the City’s plans to replace parkway ash trees with varying species of trees.

In addition, the City’s website now contains a map showing the areas in which crews are currently removing trees and where crews are headed in the near future.

The video, “Wheaton Recovers from the Emerald Ash Borer,” is available on the City’s website and on City of Wheaton Channel 10 (CWC10)
