Trial For Woman Accused Of Putting Nailpolish Remover In Toddler's Cup Will Continue
Andrea Vazquez-Hernandez, 37, of Carol Stream is currently on trial for allegedly attempting to poison her infant stepdaughter.

CAROL STREAM, IL — The trial for a Carol Stream woman accused of attempting to poison her young stepdaughter will go on into July, despite an attempt from the defense to get the case dismissed. Andrea Vazquez-Hernandez, 37, allegedly put nailpolish remover into her 17-month-old stepdaughter's milk in an attempt to poison her.
Investigators were able to detect nailpolish remover in the milk, but the baby had luckily spit out the mixture. According to Chicago Tribune, defense attorneys argued that the case should be dismissed because the infant did not completely ingest the tainted drink. According to Daily Herald, defense attorney Neil Levine also attempted to get the aggravated battery charge dropped because Vazquez-Hernandez had told himshe thought the nailpolish remover and milk combination would merely give the infant diarrhea.
Vazquez-Hernandez is charged with domestic battery, aggravated battery and attempted aggravated battery in connection to the May 29, 2016 incident. Prosecutors have held that the incident was fueled by jealousy because the infant was born to another woman while Vazquez-Hernandez and her husband were separated for a time.
