West Chicago Man Gets Multiple Felony Gun and Drug Charges: Police
Jose Cardenas, 26, of West Chicago was charged with several felony drug and gun offenses after allegedly shooting into a vehicle on June 10.

WEST CHICAGO, IL — A West Chicago man has been charged with multiple offenses after he allegedly opened fire on an occupied vehicle last week. Jose Cardenas, 26, of the 300 block of High Street, was charged with a total of seven felony drug and gun counts.
Cardenas was charged with one count of aggravated discharge of a weapon, one count of unlawful possession of a controlled substance (cocaine), one count of unlawful possession of a controlled substance (heroin), one count of unlawful possession of a controlled substance (cannabis), two counts of possession of a weapon by a felon and one count of possession of ammunition by a felon.
At approximately 3:48 a.m. on Saturday June 10, a vehicle reportedly approached a vehicle with several people inside and began firing. An investigation led police to Cardenas, who was taken into custody Thursday, June 15. Police say Cardenas' aggravated discharge of a weapon charge is related to Saturday's shooting. Cardenas' additional drug and gun charges were a result of an investigation during his June 15 arrest.

DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said of the incident and arrest, "The allegations against this defendant are very serious and will be met with the full force of the law. Thankfully, no one in the vehicle or any innocent bystanders were injured by the brazen behavior alleged against Mr. Cardenas. I would like to thank the West Chicago Police Department for the apprehension of the suspect in this case. I would also like to thank Assistant State’s Attorney Jim French for his efforts as well."
Cardenas is set to appear before Judge Brian Telander on June 26, 2017.
